Services Overview
 |
MGF Consultants offer a range of services to clients with Electrical, Mechanical and Acoustic engineering needs, and also have a strong presence in the areas of energy efficiency and sustainability. |
The firm has been responsible for numerous innovative design initiatives and key projects throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory, and has enjoyed nationwide acclaim for the success of projects such as the Northern Territory University Thermal Energy Storage Project and more recently, William McCormack Place; Australia’s first 5 - star energy efficient building.
Research and Development - Innovation
 |
Research and development into the innovative use of current and future technology is central to the firms’ success. Thermal Energy Storage, using chilled water as the storage medium, was first adopted by MGF Consultants for the Charles Darwin |
University in 1997. This employs a 72 MWh storage tank to displace 100% of the HVAC load to ‘off peak’ times for over 40 separate buildings totaling 80,000m² of air-conditioned space.
MGF was also responsible for introducing Dessicant Heat Exchanger technology to North Queensland for use in pre-conditioning outside air utilizing the embodied energy of displaced conditioned air. Since the initial application of this technology in 1986, MGF has actively promoted its use within the Catholic ‘Cool Schools’ program throughout the 1990’s and the technology is widely used by the firm today.
Industry Support and Mentoring
MGF provide active support for a number of initiatives which are closely aligned with the values and interests of the firm including:
Active participation in mentoring and leading initiatives such as the Solar Cities Campaign.
Close involvement with Industry Development bodies including the Centre for Excellence in Tropical Design.
Preparation and presentation of papers at engineering events Australia wide in the fields of environmentally sustainable initiatives and Thermal Energy Storage.
